Halsall in the News

  • Sweet Win for Sugar Beach at Toronto Urban Design Awards – Halsall is proud to be on the team that earned an Award of Excellence in the Large Places/Neighbourhood Designs category for Canada's Sugar Beach (at the foot of Jarvis Street). Halsall provided structural consulting services for the $14.3 million project, which opened in August 2010. We kept sustainability as a core focus by incorporating local materials into the design. Congratulations to the Halsall team, Claude Cormier Architectes Paysagistes and Waterfront Toronto on making this project an award-winning success!
  • Big Recognition for Small Ottawa Project Halsall is proud to have made a big difference on the ‘Front to Back’, 43,  45 Grant Street project, which earned an Ottawa Urban Design Award of Merit – Urban Infill (low-rise). We helped our client realize their vision of providing unobstructed views and overcame the many challenges presented by this tall and narrow three-storey building. The project also won the Ontario Association of Architects’ (OAA) People’s Choice Award this past April. Congrats to Halsall’s Albert Celli and Colizza Bruni Architecture!
  • Ottawa Office Featured on City of Ottawa Website Halsall’s Ottawa office, which achieved LEED-CI Platinum, is one of five projects included in the City of Ottawa’s Green Buildings in the Community portal. The City is highlighting green projects that "demonstrate a drive to innovate, find creative solutions to big problems and keep raising the bar for environmental performance” (City of Ottawa website).
  • Halsall Engineer in Canadian Museum Renovation Documentary - Dan Carson, one of Halsall’s Senior Structural Engineers, was featured in “A Modern Castle: The Rebirth of the Canadian Museum of Nature” which aired August 26, 2011 on Discovery World HD. The movie documents the makeover that transformed the 100-year-old Victoria Memorial Museum Building into a museum of natural history for the 21st century. Halsall did a major seismic retrofit of the Museum – which is the third highest rated heritage building in Ottawa.
  • Canadian Engineering Firms Rebuild Haitian Schools – Halsall is pleased to join fellow engineering firms Quinn Dressel and Associates, Read Jones Christofferson and Blackwell Bowick to help rebuild Haitian schools devastated by the January earthquake. All firms are providing their time, expertise and resources pro bono. We commend Halsall’s Liz  Oldershaw for her initiative in coordinating this effort with Finn Aid Church, a Finnish NGO.
